A fireplace is where stone gets to be decorative rather than practical, and it is worth spending the good slab on. Surrounds, hearths, mantels, and full-height cladding that runs floor to ceiling in one continuous piece of veining — this is the work we most enjoy, and the room it changes most.

Surrounds, hearths and full-height walls

We measure the opening and the wall, lay the cuts out against the actual slab so the veining runs where you want it, and cut mitred edges so the stone wraps corners without a line. For full-height work, porcelain and sintered slabs let us cover a wall with very few seams; for a statement surround, marble and quartzite are hard to beat.

Choosing the stone

A fireplace uses a modest amount of stone, which is why the most remarkable slab in the showroom is often affordable here. Over 1,000 slabs are in stock, natural and engineered, from Cosentino, Cambria, Caesarstone and Laminam — you pick the exact one in our Lincolnwood showroom.
